My CoWorking thoughts:
CoWorking is a way for me and other liked minded individuals to change the community of South Bethlehem, PA and by sparking change here we know it will spread to other communities in the Lehigh Valley. This is the original home of the American Iron Industry & later the Steel Industry. I also believe that cooperative collaboration can be used to change communities throughout America & the rest of the world. We can already see the effects of collaboration here in the Lehigh Valley. The first CoWorking Space in the Lehigh Valley was the Hive4A which is sponsored by the Allentown Economic Development Corporation and located at 905 Harrison St in Allentown, PA, Next we have SoBeCoWorks, the first privately owned and membership sponsored CoWorking Space. Since the start of SoBeCoWorks over 3 years ago we now have the Easton CoWorks, Velocity1A in Allentown and soon there will be others and my hope is that we will see some form of CoWorking in every downtown as we need to re-tool our citizenry to the new economic realities.
According to wikipedia.org CoWorking is:
Coworking is a style of work that involves a shared working environment, sometimes an office, yet independent activity. Unlike in a typical office environment, those coworking are usually not employed by the same organization. Typically it is attractive to work-at-home professionals, independent contractors, or people who travel frequently who end up working in relative isolation. Coworking is the social gathering of a group of people, who are still working independently, but who share values, and who are interested in the synergy that can happen from working with talented people in the same space.
Some coworking spaces were developed by nomadic internet entrepreneurs seeking an alternative to working in coffeeshops and cafes, or to isolation in independent or home offices. A 2007 survey showed that many employees worry about feeling isolated and losing human interaction if they were to telecommute. Roughly a third of both private and public-sector workers also reported that they didn’t want to stay at home during work. Coworking offers a solution to the problem of isolation that many freelancers experience while working at home, while at the same time letting them escape the distractions of home.
I especially like the part of:
Coworking is the social gathering of a group of people, who are still working independently, but who share values, and who are interested in the synergy that can happen from working with talented people in the same space.
I wholeheartedly believe in liked minded adults coming together for the greater good of a community, a village, a town, a city, a country and a continent. Now I don’t have visions of changing the world myself, I simply want to change one block, my block and with time change my commuinty and with time and the help of my like minded community members change South Bethlehem thereby making it a wonderful place to work, a super place to play, and a vibrant city to live in.
Entrepreneurship lives and is vibrant in the Knowledge Neighborhood we call South Bethlehem, PA. Come
