Awesome Alternatives to MS Products

This is the first in a series of articles in which we will list our favorite things or alternatives to what you’re used to and so on. We do not make judgments, we want you to try them and make your own decision.

Today we will list some options to MicroSoft software

Office

There are several options when it comes to MS Office

  • FreeOffice – FreeOffice is a German based (in English) option to MS Office. It is free for home or office use. It’s available for MS, Apple & Linux.
  • Google’s G Suite/Google Apps – Googles workspace is in the cloud (which basically means it’s on someone else’s computer, Googles in this case). This option allows you to work with others in real time. Browser based and therefore works with Windows, Apple & Linux.
  • LibreOffice – LibreOffice is the best known and most widely known option as an alternative to MS Office. Available for MS & Linux
  • WPS Office – This is as close to a clone of MS Office as anyone gets. If you want the feel of MS Office without the bill, try this one out. Available for MS, Apple & Linux
  • iWork – Based on it’s name, you may have deduced that this is the Apple option.
  • Zoho Workplace – Another web-based office allowing real-time collaboration. Browser based and therefore works with Windows, Apple & Linux.
  • Polaris – Another very popular alternative to MS. Available for MS, Apple & Linux

Photoshop

  • Photopea – An online photo editor. Being online, any browser and OS should work.
  • GIMP – An opensource alternative to PS. It is available for Windows, Apple & Linux.
  • Pixler – This one is kind of odd as it’s available as an app for Android and IOS along with being online.

Adobe Premier

  • Davinci Resolve – Great option if you’re already pretty serious about video editing, not for the beginner. It is available for Windows, Apple & Linux.
  • KDENlive – While created for Linux users, it has been ported to Windows and Apple.
  • iMovie – Clearly a Mac only option. Not available for Windows or Linux.
  • OpenShot – Another option started on the Linux platform and ported to Windows & Apple.

This is by far not all inclusive. We will be adding to it as time goes on.

So, what is your favorite alternative and why? Let us know in the comments. Also, feel free to let us know what we missed.
